Hustle Clean Spotlight: Scott Goldweber

Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, I moved to DC back in 2011. I have been a part of DRC since 2019. While I like running, I also enjoy rock climbing, biking and through the pandemic I discovered a new passion in painting.

How did you start running?
Honestly I started running on a whim. I got convinced at the last second to run the 2018 marine corps 10k and while the run itself was very difficult, I decided to see if I could do a marathon one year later (which I did!).

How did you hear about DRC?
Before I was an avid runner, I was a rock climber. One of my rock climbing friends knew I was trying to train for my first marathon and suggested trying out DRC. I took a leap of faith and showed up not knowing a single person.  Due to the inclusivity and kindness of the people in DRC, I still came back!

What are your running goals now that things are opening back up and races are in person once again?
Well for one, I’m just happy races are back in general! My personal goals are:

  1.    To complete a 1:45 half marathon.

  2. Since my first marathon (2019 MCM) was more about surviving than finishing in a good time, I would love to compete another marathon in better conditions and preferably under 4 hours.

A Random fun fact about you:
After breaking my arm in the 8th grade, I discovered I’m ambidextrous. I can now throw, catch and play any sport with my left or right.

What have you done to maintain some normalcy?
Exercising consistently was difficult during the pandemic. I did a combination of zoom classes (thank you Leon), meeting up with other friends for low key runs and the occasional bike ride. It helped seeing familiar faces, even if it was from afar or virtually.

Your favorite running quote:
Mental toughness is a lifestyle.
