Q&A:
Where exactly are we tubing? Shenandoah River in Harpers Ferry, WV. River Riders' flat water route, the longest tubing stretch in the area.
How long is the float? It’s about 1.5 to 3 hours, self guided (no staff on the river with you, you go at your own pace).
Is this beginner friendly? Yes. Flat water, Class I, described as the most relaxing and popular of their trips. Good for all fitness levels and group sizes.
What's provided vs. what do I bring? River Riders provides the tube and life jacket (PFD). You bring everything on our packing list: swimsuit, towel, water shoes, sunscreen, etc.
Wait, does River Riders also handle transportation? Just locally. They shuttle you between the drop off point and the river put in. That's separate from our DRC bus, which is still handling the DC to Harpers Ferry ride. Nothing changes on your end, just wanted to clarify since their site also mentions transportation.
Can I bring a cooler? Yes, coolers are allowed on this route. If you want yours to float alongside you, they also rent floating cooler tubes on site (not included in your ticket).
Is there an age or weight requirement? Minimum age 4 and 30 lbs. No stated max, though the outfitter notes the trip may not be comfortable for guests significantly over their ideal weight range. Best judgment call for each rider.
Do I need to sign anything? Yes, two things actually. You’ll have to complete a liability waivers from River Riders liability (required by the outfitter).
What if I don't want to tube? This year we're offering a transport-only ticket for members who just want the bus ride. If you choose transport-only, you're responsible for booking and paying for your own trip experience directly through River Riders' website before the trip. DRC won't book, pay for, or coordinate any part of that on your behalf.
What if I can't make it anymore? DRC doesn't offer refunds for individual cancellations. It's on you to find someone to fill your spot. Once you've got someone lined up, coordinate the handoff (and any payment between you) directly. Just make sure DRC comms or Retail knows who's actually showing up so we have accurate headcount and waiver info.
